Earth Design Studios was asked to create a brand for Leeds based indie record label Dead Young Records. They wanted the general branding to be something modern and representative of an urban environment, yet with references to times past. It was also requested that the logo should work as a stamp.
We designed the logo first, with the requirement to be able to be used as a stamp in mind. We also used neon signs as a reference point for the design (and the final design has been turned into an actual neon sign which gets brought out for gigs).
The branding images were based around photos taken in Leeds city center. These were then modified to make all the shop signs references to Dead Young Records. By using black and white photos, the photos take on a somewhat timeless air and also allowed the label logo to be the initial focus of the image by the virtue of it being the only part in colour. The branding images also formed the backbone of the DYR website and the sleeve for the first release, helping to reinforce the visual identity across all the mediums in which Dead Young Records operates.
The label were very pleased with the work that Earth Design Studios did for them, and it also proved to be the start of a very fruitful working relationship. See the gig posters section for some of the poster work we have done for them.
