Having already successfully created a brand identity for Dead Young Records, we were asked to produce the designs for their new project – the Dead Young Club. This was a limited edition 10" vinyl record featuring 4 bands with a folded poster sleeve, sealed with wax and containing photos taken by the bands.
This was obviously a labour of love on behalf of Dead Young. We wanted to produce a design that reflected the quality of the recordings and also give the release something of a timeless quality. It was a joint decision that the poster should be black and white, as it both fit with the label's branding and also saved money on the print run.
Once more we turned tweaked photos shot in Leeds for the main image, this time using a panoramic image, which gave the artwork a cinematic quality. Modern serif type was used for the typographical content, making use of occasional ornamentation to separate sections.
The package was topped off by having the two sides of the poster held together with sealing wax (complete with a Dead Young Records logo stamp). We also produced posters and postcards for the tour which occurred in support of this release using the look developed for the record itself.
The label were incredibly pleased with the end result and have asked us to work on the upcoming Volume 2 with them. It stands as a great collectable object and sold very well.
